@farah afaict, English is the exception to the rule. Every other Germanic language pronounces J that way unless it's a loan word.

@farah Yeah, my guess is, for example, names like Jacob got their pronunciation in part because of increases of French influence ~1,000 years ago and translations of Latin to groups that would've been almost entirely illiterate when it happened.
