@urlyman What I really hate 😬 when I'm cycling is a car overtaking me & then instantly turning left in front of me (uk). Can't wait 20 seconds to turn behind me.🙄
@annehargreaves oh yes, drives me nuts
There’s a junction at the end of my road where people pretty much NEVER do option 2, in either direction.
When on the main road and turning into my road I of course anticipate this, and wait for them, not least because the Highway Code has mandated that I do so for the past few years (it used not to).
But they’ll still frequently swear at me because I’m on a bike and not allowed to exist
@urlyman I'm in the US, so my head is always on a swivel. I've had the right-of-way, made solid eye contact with the driver, and still had them try to run me over. And don't get me started with driverless cars.
@troublewithwords glad you’re here Steven 😀
@urlyman Thanks! Much of my extended family are cyclists. They've ridden all their lives, some have raced, two opened bicycle shops. They've also taken their hits and have their scars. (One brother was even hit by a boat.) I'm more of a pedestrian than a cyclist, but either way, cars are going to rule the road, no matter how much that's not right. 🤷
I expect that everyone else on the road doesn't deserve their license and is trying to kill me. Much like Prince Humperdinck, I always think everything could be a trap, which is why I'm still alive.
@urlyman I had a friend who never looked when crossing little roads. I asked him about it and he said, “if someone hits me, I’ll sue!”
I had to point out to him that many people in the area drove Chelsea tractors, and you can’t sue from a coffin. And I don’t think it made a difference.
I have no idea what he’s up to nowadays, but I hope he stayed out of hospital.
@urlyman If crossing a three way intersection, check at least five ways twice. The three you know about, the one somebody assumed worked, and one more just in case someone got creative.
