Today I looked at my Wikipedia userpage for the first time in years, and it was sorely in need of updating. One thing that struck me was that more than half the text on my userpage (including sandboxes) was written by one person, who was not me. This guy was a big reason I drifted away from editing Wikipedia. He was a tremendous nuisance who committed the Wikipedia sin of "original research" all over the place. I thought I'd check to see if he was still active, so I could block him.
Dude's dead.
It never occurred to me at the time to do an Internet search of his name, but it turns out he was sort of well-known as a "sex researcher." He was also older than I even imagined at the time. Pushing 70. I read a really awkward obituary of him, and if you read between the lines, you get a picture of a person who was probably also annoying as hell in real life. I mean, R.I.P. and all that, but thank goodness I never have to worry about that guy popping up in my Wikipedia mentions again.
@RachelThornSub "sex researcher" sounds like the title a creep would use for himself to avoid stating outright that he's a creep
@gabrielesvelto He contributed to some scholarly sex journal, apparently.
@RachelThornSub actual academia!? Then my judgement was too hasty
