Is this anything: Star trek's costumes/props designers create all humanoid species by adding rubberized ornamentation to the cheeks, teeth, eyebrows, forehead, neck, and scalp, which is very rigid. So the only facial features left for the actors are their outer embouchure and eyes. A diagnostic correlate of autism is greater dispersion of gaze over the face when attending to emotion.....

Corrolary: all the evil guys are the most rubberized: the cardasians have whole head and neck pieces and can't really look around. The ferengi have their whole top half of their face and teeth covered. Klingons. Etc. And then they made the good versions of the bad guys like the bajorans just have little accents. The symbiote species just have leopard spots.
