Creating media with an uncooperative mind: https://www.baldurbjarnason.com/2026/deciding-what-to-do/
@baldur I get the feeling that social media also didn't pan out as a good medium for those who want to work primarily with text. All of them (aside from Mastodon and Bluesky) seem to be trending toward "For You" and short-form video.
One benefit of podcasts is that it seems kind of resistant to this: I don't see a trend toward short, punchy podcasts to help them "play well" on social media like we see with video.
@nolan Yeah, turns out algorithmic and visual is what gets the numbers and linear and text-based seems to be heading towards nichedom.
Good things can happen in dark, unattended corners, though. So, I'm not entirely without hope that Mastodon and related might evolve to do interesting things.
And, yeah, podcasts seem to be keeping their own dynamic – holding their own – at least so far. And audiobooks are now a major part of the book world.
