Definitely no alliums here in the twelfth century.
I'm now moderately interested to see if they were introduced at the same time as the brown. I suspect not. I don't associate them with English cuisine in the least, but then they were called Spanish Onions back in the day, which may having coloured my opinion.
Cook books do go a fair way back, though maybe not to that far
