OK let me run up this flagpole. now I KNOW there's so many UNIX-style desktop environments that I can't possible make a really comprehensive poll but I'm genuinely curious as to what folks use. We first experienced Xfce quite a while ago (late 1990s when it was new) and after spending a while with KDE and other things instead we settled back into Xfce. It gets the job done and that's what matters.

@mxchara For a long time, elementary OS's Pantheon; now, Cinnamon, which is Linux Mint's DE. (You can use it with, for example, vanilla Debian, but it works best with Linux Mint.)
That said I have a soft spot for LXDE with a Windows 95 theme
@nev LXDE, I would have listed that one if I'd remembered it. I thought of listing Cinnamon too but isn't that GNOME basically? (I don't keep up with these things well)
Cinnamon was forked from GNOME about 15 years ago and is very different these days. It is kinda similar to Xfce in look & feel but back when I started using Cinnamon it had fewer visible issues than Xfce and worked really well with multiple monitors. The DE also (in Linux Mint form) comes with a bunch of homegrown and/or forked apps due to GNOME's "we only develop for ourselves" approach which routinely causes their apps to break for downstream adopters.
@mxchara it's a lot more customizable than GNOME and by default more of a Windows-y setup. lacks GNOME's big fat title/menu bars and other more idiosyncratic choices
