There should really be a bus from the Bacchus Marsh town centre to the Melton town centre. The train is hopeless because the stations are both are kilometres from where the things people need are located.

another example of this in geelong - there's two perfectly good train stations here, but the town centres are 30min+ walks away - why didn't they build the town centres near the damn train stations?!

@decryption Bunnings != town centre? I suspect part of the answer is that it's prohibitively expensive to buy several acres of land near a railway station to build a giant shopping barn.

You see this sort of thing in Perth for the new train lines, where they've built where land was available rather than where it would make sense if it had been integrated from the start.
Maybe more services will be built closer to the train stations over the next 20-30 years, but maybe not.
@jamesh train line has been there for over 100 years, the shops & town centre is relatively modern (1990s onwards)

just a nice loop from bacchus marsh train station to bacchus marsh town centre to Woodgrove shopping centre, melton town centre, then melton train station and back again
@decryption imagen a couple of light rail loops around BMarsh (town centre, railway station, and out to Darley and Maddingley), Melton (town centre, woodgrove, up into Kuranjang, railway station, and down towards Weir Views), and Caroline Springs (railway station to town centre at least)
@jpm light rail would be amazing, even a bus with 20 min fequencies all day, every day, would be very useful (a tram down ballarat road from footscray to caroline springs - very possible!!)
