One of the funny things about the cyberpunk genre and which I kind of blame on Aldous Huxley is how wrongly it interprets power and the way powerful people behave.
Like, in a dystopian society controlled by mega-corporations, no one is spying on you. They don't care. You can have whatever sex, drugs, porn, guns, or whatever you want as long as you can afford it. It's all good.
Whereas in the real world, power means imposing your prejudices and hang-ups on the entire world.
