@mattblaze fuck you is a perfectly fine content warning if you change your mind
The Block button is your friend :)
Sadly, they didn't get to see that, because I blocked them before I posted it.
That's always the emotional dilemma of blocking, isnt it. When i tell someone I'm blocking them, which is rare, i almost never actually do, because i dont want to miss anything. But i never respond ever again.
Seriously, if you're allergic to posts about election technology, you really, really, shouldn't follow me. Or at least keep an epi pen on hot standby.
@mattblaze wait, I always thought the deal was "come for the election security, stay for the BW pictures and DC gossip"?!?
@sophieschmieg I reserve the right to alter the deal at any time. Pray that I do not do so.
@mattblaze the thing that is incredible to me about all of this, is on mastodon there's no "algorithm", it's all opt-in directly by your choices. So people are complaining to other people about their own choices, as if they're entitled to direct others.
In any event, let me tap the sign, which is clearly posted as a pinned post:
@mattblaze
Seems reasonable enough to me
@mattblaze Maybe US politics has become so obscene that it warrants for the same precautions as adult content would ... 🤔
@mattblaze
Mastodon should have a way to put a universal content warning on an account. I.e. do not follow this account if you might be upset by something I might post.
"We're not asking you not to post about US politics. We're just asking you to use a content warning. We're being very reasonable, and your refusal to do so now that we've asked is unreasonable and hostile"
Oh, I'm sorry I wasn't clear. Fuck you.
I'm sorry, I am one of those nerds.
The reason why I sometimes request the content warning is because I'm American. The constant deluge of American-Politicians-Do-Something-Awful-Again is frustrating since I can't effect the politics of another continent.
Having said that, I won't be doing that again; your post has convinced me. I'll just avoid social media and touch grass as the kids say.
@yaeunerd I’m sorry my posts aren’t of interest to you. That must be really hard for you. A good way to avoid my boring posts is to not follow my account, or mute and/or block it. Or just accept the fact that other people might be interested in things you aren’t.
I’m not interested in football. I didn’t expect the rest of the world to hide posts about the World Cup, because that would be stupid and unreasonable.
@mattblaze @yaeunerd (satirical) but just like those who read Playboy for the articles, what about those who only follow you for the gorgeous black and white photography? ;-)
@mattblaze i appreciate you finding accounts for me to block.
@joeltruher at least I’m good for something
@mattblaze @joeltruher I want to tell you earnestly that I enjoy your posts, the topics they cover or images they show, and the obvious care you put into them.
@mattblaze Why is it that only US posts about politics are requested to be put under CW? On the regular, I see posts about politics in Israel, Gaza, Canada, and the UK.
@mattblaze @jwz the CW warriors on mastodon are the worst.
@mattblaze The quickest way to turn myself into the victim is to make myself entitled to something unreasonable, and then be wounded when it's not given to me. It's narcissistic behavior.
Also, the folks complaining seem to post a lot of stuff about politics with no CWs. Rules for thee but not for me.
Love your posts and the photography
I’m not sure I understand the mindset of someone who signs up for a social media account and then gets surprised and upset when they find people discussing *current events*.
@mattblaze it baffles me how people on here can be simultaneously very hot on accessibility issues (rightly, obviously, just to be clear) but also keen for us to hide almost everything behind another click.
@mattblaze in peril of being blocked, I would say that our non-US culture is already quite flooded with US things.
Imagine what would happen if he Fedi were more South American, African or Asian and it were flooded with politics posts from there. What would you like to do?

@mdione @mattblaze It doesn't appear that you follow your own rules. I looked at your recent posts, and notice that, for example, you recently had a post about Iran using cell network insecurity to locate American troops via their personal cell phones. No CW, though that topic may be disturbing. So why are you harassing others to follow a rule that you do not follow?
@not2b @mattblaze I said I was not perfect, but that post in particular I was focused on security and privacy. In any case, I don't go telling people to fsck off when I'm pointed out, but then I don't have 3.5k followers.
@mdione I’m not interested in the vast majority of things that are posted. This is why I don’t follow the vast majority of accounts out there, and mute or block a few, as well. The accounts that I follow post things that are of interest to me. That has been extremely effective. I recommend a similar approach.
@mattblaze well, many accounts are focused on certain topics, but I think most talk about everything. I'm not saying I'm perfect, and I might boosts accounts who don't ask what I preach... I donpt know, I find it part of the netiquette (always talking about the tagging; even I have said so in a burts, CW is too much).
@mdione Yes, sometimes even people I follow post things I’m not interested in. I don’t regard that as a problem that they are supposed to solve for me.
The fact that people are interested in and talk about a wide range of things is part of the nature of the human condition, and, really, one of the things that makes life interesting.
@mdione Reading words written by others involves assuming a certain amount of risk. You might not find them interesting. You might not like them at all. There are no guarantees with words, which can sometimes be treacherous. But also occasionally beautiful.
@mattblaze Someone should say something positive, so:I continue to enjoy your photographs, and find your legal and election analyses interesting and helpful. Thank you!
@mattblaze @mdione Robert Gernhardt, a German poet, quoted from a letter that criticised one of his poems (from memory): "the reader only realises what he is reading while he is reading it" ("der Leser merkt erst beim Lesen, was er liest"). That critic, too, believed that it was Gernhardt's duty to spare him the pain to realise what he is reading while he is reading it, but Gernhardt had other ideas, and rightly so.
(The poem in question (in German, obvs.): https://www.lyrikline.org/de/gedichte/materialien-zu-einer-kritik-der-bekanntesten-gedichtform-italienischen-ursprungs-2962)
@mdione If you find my posts uninteresting or distracting or a waste of time, I understand. You should’t follow me.
@mattblaze "… words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth."
@mattblaze You have much more patience than I do for this sort of blockheadedness.
@mattblaze basically: oh the huge …
@mattblaze I apologize for our earlier entanglement because I follow you for the expert analysis of a system I don't know.
Too many post that the sky is falling, but you and other clear eyed observers post on *how* it is and is not so far falling specifically.
And I thank you for that, and the photos.
@mattblaze Amd on mastodon it's pretty easy to mute and block stuff you don't want to see.
The need for some to have a content warning on fucking near everything is the reason a fucking Nature documentary on YouTube has to bleep out the first fucking word relating to a group of crows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I. Kid. You. NOT!
Very, VERY soon, nobody will be able to say a fucking thing for fear of one or more words in any sentence, correctly used in the context they were intended, upsetting some softcock with a zero grasp of their own unimportance!
I'm done, I tell you, done. No more self-censoring where it isn't necessary.
And as was so eloquently stated in your post ...
If that wasn't clear enough, Fuck you!🖕 😎
@mattblaze Very well. We shall resume in an hour.
@mattblaze I think I get now. On the other hand, one more fuck you might be necessary.
During fascism and potential election tampering, people’s biggest problems being your posts is wild to me.
@LALegault Apparently my words are very, very powerful. Like the hands of a martial artist. Deadly weapons.
