@mattblaze if your going to rant about someone rading wanting wanting content warnings on political topics
then let ME explain: fuck you
@Li Please explain why you believe you have the right to expect strangers to censor their expression to conform to your personal preferences and interests. Alternatively, please explain how anything I have posted has harmed you.
@mattblaze please explain why you think your tantrum over adding a cw is "censorship" and trumps other peoples ability to decide for themselves what they want to see or not;
also its harmful because 1- it overrides my consent and insists i must see your bullshit, but 2- do you even know what a fucking trigger is?? (obviously not or you wouldnt post shit like this-)
let me tell you, i have cPTSD, certain topics cause me to completely fucking break apart sometimes for the entire day, during this time, i am unable to do like anything, this is very much harmful to me,
this has happened from fedi, even, in posts, talking about politics; and other topics, especially if those topics are just (laundering harm done through the state- like e.g politics often is-)
I started this and didn't expect to come down on your side, but I think you're in the right here. I CW us pol and trumpic stuff 'cuz I know people just filter that. I'm sure I miss a few--I tend to be comfortable with ideas and horrible things that most people aren't inured to. I'm not perfect, but I agree with the principle. Thanks. Wasn't sure how I felt about this until you two explicated it.
@Uair @Li Could you please explain what post of mine has harmed you? I’m genuinely confused. I don’t want to harm anyone. Really.
I try not to post anything that could be reasonably anticipated to cause harm. But I can’t guarantee that everyone will find everything I post to be of interest, or even that something I post about might not make someone uncomfortable.
@Uair @Li I have a pinned post that describes the kinds of things I post about. I don’t want anyone to follow me who would find any of what I post about unduly distressing. https://federate.social/@mattblaze/115523387764510055
@mattblaze @Uair ah yes here comes the 'just manually curate a list of every single possible thing that could ever cause you issues and predict what everyone you've ever followed could ever say-';
you clearly dont care about anyones actual issues, just appearing like you do; -- so let me try something else; -- have you considered that CWing things properly also allows you to have people see your posts about e.g geeky technology, and ponderous art, without seeing shit they dont want, about e.g politics and stuff? like they can still follow you just for those, when, they otherwise, would not be able too?
Last one before I drop out of this--I'm not coming at you because you accidentally triggered someone. But now they're triggered and you're acting like it doesn't matter. It does matter. They're not going to be right in the head for a while. Take it all with a grain of salt.
I just saw it in live action the other day. And hey--we're all traumatized. I love the line in "In Bruges"--'He's suicidal? I'm suicidal! You're suicidal! Everybody's suicidal.'
But a lot of people haven't processed whatever it is well or found a decent coping mechanism yet. I mean--why do you think I drink so much? That's mine, and I'll admit it ain't healthy.
And that's a great topic for me. Great. Thanks.
Judge by the harm you caused, which is evident by the rage. Don't judge on the reasonableness of the now-angry person. Angry people are notoriously unreasonable.
Plus, you never know when someone is drunk or on drugs and not in the right mind already.
@Uair I don’t see how I caused any harm, or how I could have anticipated any harm would come from my post.
@mattblaze @Li I don't understand this hyper-aggressive shaming when someone doesn't use a CW for everything you may not want to see in your feed. Like, you can block Matt and never see his posts, right? That's in your control, use it.
@mattblaze I find content warnings triggering. What am I supposed to do? 😉
@mattblaze I haven't had rhe energy to "Internet" for awhile now, but nice to know the climate hasn't changed any.
@mattblaze Although I'm with you on the CW Thing - one may filter out political terms oneself - you are becoming more and more rude lately (or always were?) and somewhat whiny/touchy about these things. My consequence? I won't block or mute you, but unfollow. This is not the kind of behaviour I expect from people on this network, even less so from someone who is a scientist/researcher.
@Gilgamesch You totally remind me of some random blathering about "evolutionary economics" on BSky when you say this. And when you do say this, you remind me of the manifest moral cowardice we see almost everywhere today, quite unlike the Atomic Scientists of Chicago in 1945 who were mostly of The Greatest Generation. @mattblaze @cstross @kimcrawley @davidgerard
@bms48 @mattblaze @cstross
Oh I can be incredible rude, when it's appropriate.
And maybe I'm not aware of the initial post, that warrants such behaviour, but wishing for CW on political matters is hardly the same as e.g. propagating a fascist world view. (Burn them on a stake!) Everything is political. Just ignore the special snowflakes without insulting anyone is all I'm saying. (See what I did there? 😜)
As for evolutionary economics, well... I don't know what that is and probably don't care.
@Gilgamesch @bms48 @cstross I’m curious. What did I ever do or say to make you believe I’d be even slightly interested in your opinion on what I should and shouldn’t post, random stranger? I realize you think my language is beneath my station, but I will, I assure you, find a way to live with your disapproval.
@Gilgamesch Do whatever you want. I really don’t give a shit if you think I’m too rude to trolls. Sounds like a you problem.
@mattblaze @Gilgamesch Being rude to trolls in front of an audience is one of the few perks of being slightly famous on social media.
@cstross @mattblaze @Gilgamesch now there’s a level of fame that feels worth aspiring too.
@cstross @Gilgamesch Not famous enough to get a good table at a restaurant when it’s fully booked, but famous enough to be able to speak my mind as I see fit, is good enough for me.
