@cstross Those birds - and the whole short-lived NATO air war strategy behind them - were so cool.
(They were meant to run supplies to dispersed operating bases for VTOL fighters and attack aircraft, both of which also reached prototype stadium at the same time. But the I guess Lockheed went ahead and bribed a number of European defense ministers, and everybody got Starfighters.)
