Mac/iOS people who like DECtalk and in the case of iOS, are experienced in sideloading, have fun: https://github.com/masonasons/DECTalkApple/releases/v0.1.0/
@mewproj The page goes nowhere. is this not open source?
@mewproj is there a reason it couldn't eventually make it to the app store?
@dennislong82 Yes. DECtalk licensing is a complete unknown.
before you ask, because of licencing, no this cannot and will not be on the app store/test flight.
Android people! Tired of MicroDectalk? I've just created a regular old DECTalk TTS engine for Android! Download: https://github.com/masonasons/DECTalkAndroid/releases/download/v0.1.0/DECtalk-v0.1.0.apk Repo: https://github.com/masonasons/DECTalkAndroid
@mewproj That's pretty cool. Do you happen to know whether there's a way to use DecTalk with NVDA?
@JEkis I think @alexchapman has an updated add-on.
@mewproj @JEkis @alexchapman just to let you know, yes he does. he has updated it recently.
@mewproj Actually since DECTalk got open sourced years ago it can be on Testflite and Appstore.
@alexchapman incorrect. DECtalk may be on github, but that doesn't mean we officially have free reign to do whatever we want with it. The licensing situation was never made clear, and thus I will not be touching Test Flight or the App Store with DECtalk with a 100 foot pole.
@mewproj Well, with the original company defunked, there's no reason it couldn't work on Testflite/AppStore. from how things look in the official DECTalk repo the devs haven't bothered to take the time to choose a new license and have left the old license from 2003 in there. I've been wanting DECTalk on my iPhone for a while as Eloquence is just giving me odd issues recently, and when I tried to do it Sideloadly wouldn't detect my Apple ID and when I tried to do the normal install rather than the Apple ID it gave a try again dialog, then a fatal error, so I'm fucked 6 ways from Sunday lol.
