The rollout of the unified ChatGPT for Mac app really isn't going well on X/Reddit 🥶
They kinda fumbled it and I think Anthropic did a slightly better job on first try. Even OpenAI's existing iOS app makes more sense than their new Mac layout right now.
The difference between "normal" chatbot chats, Work/Cowork harnesses with connectors, and Code/Codex local threads and filesystem access is the new UX hell for these companies.
Obviously not a designer and this is a really tough problem to solve, but as a nerd with Opinions:
- Bring back a proper view for regular chat history and normal ChatGPT Projects
- For Work, let users choose between local filesystem or web-based sandbox (web-based
Work threads sync; local ones need Remote)
- Sync plugins everywhere! Right now if you connect a plugin on web, it doesn't show on Mac. Wild.
- Offer option to unify memories
- Faster switching between Chat/Work/Codex
never thought I'd ever say Anthropic would end up with a less confusing app experience than OpenAI; and yet here we are 😂
@viticci it’s also now double the file size of the Claude macOS app…which is sort of bonkers. These apps update often and a 1.5gb download every week or so is kind of insane.
@viticci Regular chats feel really stashed in the app and can’t really be grouped in to a folder like you can in the Legacy app
It really feels like they need a Search/Chat mode alongside Work and Codex
@viticci I maintain Claude has always been better 🫣
@viticci They all wish they had an operating system with market share, and the two companies that do are complete non-participants for completely different reasons. It’s good writing.
