What project you think #fediverse is missing the most currently? 🤔
@mbajur a federated Strava alternative for sports tracking and mapping! Something like https://codeberg.org/jannis/FitoTrack with social features
Electronic payments. I think that will be the moment the Fediverse truly arrives. That's how we create a viable FediTwich or Peertube, a marketplace, and a global mutual aid network.
I want hearts in Pixelfed (e.g.) that can give artists a little bit of money and a support button that adds people (e.g. my admin) to my personal recurring donation pool.
@mbajur federated marketplace / classifieds. There is fleemarket, but more for local shops and entrepreneurs to offer services als goods. Once people can buy en sell stuff they will invest (time and effort) in the platform. Could be used for hyper local communities, cities or special interest groups (buy / sell books, vinyl, …)
@mbajur A LinkedIn replacement.
I would contribute $$$ to any effort that made this happen.
@NoRomBasic i was actually thinking about doing something like that as I'm looking for a job/gigs myself. The only problem here might be getting the employers to actually post som offerings cc @felipeB
Federated event calendaring, with updates that propagate through the #Fediverse
@bignose isn't Gancio enough? 🤔
@mbajur the most requested thing is a dating platform which actually values privacy and doesn't run out the back door with your face ID to sell to third parties and send to the government
there's already a hashtag used by people who keep asking for it, I forget what. fedi-date? fedi-match? its some kind of pun because we love those
@normjess Privacy is a tricky thing when it comes to fediverse. Also, sounds veeeery ambitious, i can imagine running a dating site/app comes with a tons of challenges and a massive amount of moderation work. But i get it, makes total sense
@mbajur yeah, the second most requested thing is a 'messenger' that's easy access and privacy focused too
the popular ones claiming to be privacy focused still use phone numbers and geo-location and stuff, and pass data on for cash
not sure quite what smaller projects to suggest
is there a good blogging platform on the fediverse? I dunno, give me a day or two and perhaps I'll come back with something better
@normjess sure, take your time 😊 I suppose ghost and wordpress are pretty solid? There is also plume but they seem a bit stale
@mbajur This is gonna sound like a joke but I genuinely think a pinterest that is functional and usable (and doesn't clog search results, people understandably hate that about pinterest) would be really cool. I LIKED pinterest before it just went to shit, and there is nothing that replicates the pinboard vibe for me
@lapis the most problematic and potentially unrealistic thing to replicate would probably be the recommendation algorithm + maybe costs of hosting it all
@mbajur pixabay alternative perhaps?
