Don't repeatedly follow someone who repeatedly removes you as a follower. Yes this is a subtoot. Just, like, consider whether it would be creepy in person and maybe don't do it if so.
(All good here, I blocked them and finally disabled automatic follow approval. Frankly I'm surprised it took this long.)

I realized that I might have done so by mistake, more than once. When I see a post that I really like I check if I'm following the person. And if I'm not I will typically follow them.
But if somebody removes me and then a good post flies by again three months later, I may follow again, never remembering that I already did it once.
@jannem that's totally reasonable! I've probably done the same. I'm talking, like, four times in the span of a week.
Understandable. And yet, it seems like a problem I don't have (to the same degree??): perhaps the I-bother-to-follow-bar is higher for me? Can this be?
I think for a while now, that I need to start curating my lists such that following more will be reasonable (or else the flood of posts would overwhelm me). But this Mastodon thing should be more amusement than work.
