If you believe in the #Fediverse :
- post here
- bring your friends and family here
- tell companies, governments and creators to be here
- pay for your instance
- pay for your software
Do one thing every day. The Fediverse is worth fighting for.

@Steel_Virgin You and I are working on different projects, then.
You should be able to control what you see and who you follow, but you don't get a veto on what the rest of us see and who the rest of us follow.
@evan What veto are you talking about ?
Do I look like anyone that would have such a power anyway ?
But this is a political space. And what we want for it determines what it becomes, and who has what power, what right.
So, yes. As an activist, I don't want the masters of capitalism to be welcome on a space that, to this day, try to work against capitalist behaviors.
If your ok with companies and gouvernements changing this place to make it another marketplace with surveillance⦠then, it's obvious we are working on different projects.
@evan Pardon the necrobump since I'm more active over at the #Atmosphere, but given the horror stories of in-fighting between devs in the Open Social Web alongside community toxicity in some parts on both sides but I would like to ask if this can also apply there even though some might say "Bluesky Social is too big to fail" in the context of infra decentralization work?
@ajhalili2006 I think you should put in your time connecting with people in the best way you can.
@evan @ajhalili2006 People are messy. That's why it's worth it.
@evan one more thing to add: Get organised with other fediversers. Our actions can have exponential impact working together.
Any Australian/Oceanian fediversers who read this, lets connect. I'm slowly putting together an organisation to serve and promote the fediverse for the Australia/Oceania region.
@evan Since university admins are risk adverse, do we have examples? Iβve been trying at my uni but it is a tough slog. @KarenKeiller@cosocial.ca
@KarenKeiller@indieweb.social @evan @KarenKeiller@cosocial.ca There are examples of Universities in the Fediverse. Some (like Uni Innsbruck) even with their own instances.
But there are also alternatives:
- talk to the student union. they may host a service.
- use and promote an existing instance. that's fine too.
- starting your own instance is not too hard either if you rent it from someone who does the technical stuff.
@evan All my friends are here, everyone I care about either is already here or doesn't use social media.
@evan I dont want companies and gouvernements here⦠I'm here because they're not.
