We want to create WebDAV-Push, so that users can receive updated data whenever they're available.
This is especially important for CalDAV/CardDAV, where we want to bring (near-)real-time synchronization (which is nowadays industry standard for proprietary protocols) also to CalDAV/CardDAV clients.
@deutrino CalDAV and CardDAV on Apple platforms do support push, did you look at that? You essentially need approval from Apple, but the protocol/mechanism is open IIRC. AFAIK FastMail is a third party that has the entitlement.
@helge I didn't, but I dropped Apple ... wow, 10 or 11 years ago now. damn, time flies.
@deutrino I'm just saying that push registration is already designed and implemented (for like 15+ years ;-)
You can probably find the relevant drafts somewhere in the Apple CalendarServer docs. It's not just for iCloud, it also worked for self hosted servers.
@helge oh that's interesting, I didn't realize it wasn't thru iCloud or whatever their version of Firebase is... I'm not sure I have the mental bandwidth but it would be good to find the docs and share with the people doing this effort. I have nothing to do with this one other than being a heavy CalDAV user, I just posted the link because I am trying to drum up support/awareness/usage of CalDAV on fedi.
