The venality and financial corruption of the Trump regime beggar the imagination. Less hard to grasp is the complicity of the Republican Fascist Congress. They wouldn’t impeach and remove him if he literally bankrupted the country by straightforwardly stealing every asset it has. What evil rubes they are.

@heidilifeldman We’re in the strip it/sell it portion of mafia/corporate takeover, which includes shareholder buy in/bribes. Eventually they light the thing on fire and try to collect insurance/blame market oversight, while playing victim/blaming the left.
But we’re so abstracted and eroded and over-leveraged this time that the scorched earth hot potato is an albatross, and the floor is climate change nuclear war genocide xenocide lava, underfoot erosion self-own.
This slush fund and tax nonenforcement deal enacted by the DOJ must be subject to some sort of legal challenge, right?
We are seeing it reported in the news as a done deal, but isn't there some potential for challenging it and even for prosecution of DOJ officials who made the deal?
@mastodonmigration @heidilifeldman No one knows right now, but I do believe CREW has filed suit. It’s an impeachable offense under corruption and fraud but if we don’t win both the House and 67 Senate seats that’s a no go.
It was never appropriated by Congress, but doge stole all the appropriated money in 2025. (by the way we still have no way of knowing where the money went when he fired all those people and stopped all of the grants etc last year). #thugfund
Can't believe that the only recourse is impeachment and removal. An AG simply can't give away billions to whomever they want. It can't work that way.

The three arms of US governance are all under Trump’s control and happy to gratify every whim of the Dear Leader. The US Constitution is irellevant, may as well never have been written. Elections and districts are gerrymandered. The Democrats are not showing any kind of decent resistance or sufficient leadership. It’s like an old fashioned absolute monarchy.
Sadly true. It’s a fucking nightmare on every level. The entire population of the country should be rioting in the streets. However, they’re all chilling. As RATM says, “come and play, come and play, forget about the movement.”

People are taking action. There are protests everywhere, everyday. Strong progressive candidates are running for office. There is only so much that can be done when we are out of power. But, the electorate is energized.
It is very hard to see what they are doing everyday, but this will not last forever. Elections matter, and we are going to crush them in November, and then begin to turn this around. It just takes time given the US political system.
We will see. There is a pretty overwhelming blue wave coming. Understand it looks bleak now, but accountability is coming, and these blatantly illegal actions will be litigated.
I hope you’re right. With the meddling in the election system, I’m quite pessimistic. But it’s prudent to cling so at least *some* hope.
There will come a time when the fascists no longer have the power of the majority. That's when we have to discipline ourselves to remember that every Republican was complicit, and every Republican argument, categorically, is made in bad faith.
