Like, I can't stress this enough right - bombing Iran didn't do the thing. We are going to struggle to come up with a bombing campaign that somehow tops "murdering half your leadership in one go."
So the next step is an invasion. And he ain't got the guys.
Material reality says this is not happening.
And the problem is that I dunno if Trump understands that. I know his military does, this is what they do for a living; but I dunno if Trump knows.
(Well, okay, I mean he could also nuke them - but I do sincerely have no idea what happens when he gives that order and I don't think Trump knows either. If he were EVER going to suffer an internal coup by the military - that would be the moment. And I'm not sure he wants to risk that.)
My whole life, I've bet on "material reality."
But this is a new world - the kinda world where the President of Russia cuts his own dick off to invade Ukraine even though every analytical argument says "do not do this."
I mean no, the internal coup thing is not wishcasting - please remember that after he lost the election, while he was openly conducting a coup attempt, the Joint Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff (so the ACTUAL top solider in our military) at the time, called missile com and told them more or less "do not accept an order from Trump."
This is what Trump means when he says Milley committed treason. That's the moment he's talking about.
This is on the table. Don't bet on it, but it's not fake.
Milley obviously thought it was not out of the realm of possibility that Trump would respond to losing the election by literally nuking someone. You don't do, what he did, otherwise.
@AnarchoNinaWrites I’m still waiting for the next Russian revolution. Iirc, every time a Russian leader invaded Ukraine, and it wasn’t total victory, they voted them out with extreme prejudice.
@schrotthaufen There are signs people under him might be plotting - but those people are Putinists, so I dunno that it'll change much - he might be headed for the glue factory tho. Guy's getting old and has not really ID'd a successor either.
