New: NYC Health and Hospitals says a data breach earlier this year affects 1.8 million people. Hackers stole personal info, medical data, government-issued IDs, Social Security numbers — and *biometrics*, including fingerprints and palm scans.
Already one of the largest healthcare breaches of 2026.

No one in my family has received paper or email notices about this. I learned about it now through your article.
I've been personally affected by lots of data breaches but this one is particularly bad. :/
@AlesandroOrtiz I mention this in my story -- the two incidents don't appear to be connected, and the NADAP affects a far smaller number of people. I have several questions out the org.

I haven't received direct notice of either data breach, particularly the larger one.
@AlesandroOrtiz maybe not for some time, the breach notice says NYCHHC's "review to identify the individuals, and specific data elements involved remains ongoing."
