@riley On further thought, I'm now wondering how GoogleBot is able to connect your fedi profile with your YT/Goog profile... 🤨

(P.S. Why is there no :suscat:.)

@woozle I am not entirely sure. It can't be the trivial G-cookie tracking, as the pattern didn't stop when I switched from Chrome to Firefox, though. But Google is known to do advanced and indirect forms of tracking, there's a degree of cross-linkage between my various accounts, and it might even have noticed that I seem to have a fairly unique name.

The gnawing part is, "This huge machine is stalking me and then leaving me messages with secret meaning in them" used to be a common psychiatric symptom. Fell under 'delusions of reference' in the simpler forms, or Victor Tausk's 'Influencing Machine' in the full-blown variant. https://www.cabinetmagazine.org/issues/14/turner.php/cabinet-the-influencing-machine

@riley Torment Nexus 2025 now includes dramatic improvements over earlier versions. Torment now lasts over 200% longer, and self-reactivates by default*!

(* for instructions on deactivating it, see technical manual*.)

(* technical manual available for purchase by qualified professionals and TormentCorp development staff only)

@woozle Well, how is this not Youtube-described-for-a-1919 reader?

“The influencing machine,” Tausk wrote, “makes the patients see pictures. When this is the case, the machine is generally a magic lantern or cinematograph. The pictures are seen on a single plane, on walls or windowpanes; unlike typical visual hallucinations, they are not three-dimensional.”
