I have an ageing phone. One of the things it highlights is just how terribly made modern web pages are. The following is very common:

- I’m in a page that’s overwhelmingly text
- I scroll a viewport height or so
- I get a white screen
- I have to wait several seconds for the text that fills that space to render

This is *astonishingly* bad web development. And it’s bloody everywhere

…Chances are that the blogging/journaling/newslettering platform you signed up for makes its pages this way.

Absolutely shit, incredibly extravagantly wasteful web dev is now just the default

@urlyman I have people ask how I get my Rails apps so fast on commodity hosting, and my answer is "well we serve a small amount of HTML generated on the server, it caches well"
