Was @mellifluousbox at FediForum?
@duncanlock Yes, I was at FediForum Europe at #SFScon two weeks ago
@mellifluousbox
Did you read this thread 😊 ? Is there anything the mastodon org can do to help fund the excellent trust and safety work that @thisismissem is doing for the fediverse?
@duncanlock Yes, but I did not understand how the question was related to the thread, hence my question :)
Unfortunately we don't have any positions open in that area at the moment
@mellifluousbox
There's a lot of space between €0 and a full time job - can mastodon really not sponsor this work, in some way, at some level?
@thisismissem
@duncanlock @mellifluousbox I'm not even asking for sponsorship, just some recognition that points people my way and if they want they can support my work.
Take for example the 4.5 release blog post, y'all highlighted a feature that I took the initiative to drive & work on and get done, but didn't bother to mention it was an outside contribution.
In the same article, a big highlight was fetch all replies which wouldn't have happened without @jonny's hard work pushing for it.
Mastodon is built by more than just the core team, yet all official announcements don't provide any recognition to the people actually pushing things forwards from the community. The best we get is merges in release notes on github or a line in the Trunk & Tidbits posts.
@thisismissem
Giving credit to contributors seems like a very simple thing that the project should already be doing! Many tiny little OSS GitHub projects with one maintainer can manage this, Mastodon should be ashamed if they aren't doing this!
