@adamgreenfield There you go: https://www.thomann.co.uk/harley_benton_pb_20_sbk_standard_series.htm
A very good crafted bass for beginners with an unbeatable price. I bought it last year and it's worth every penny.
(Yes it's black, not grey as on the photos.)
Thomann would ship it to UK [correction:] for 10 £ with UK Mail.
(I corrected the link to the english version.)
@adamgreenfield Or a little bit better due to a second pickup: https://www.thomann.co.uk/harley_benton_pj_4_sbk_deluxe_series.htm
And only 7 £ more! (I own this one too and would recommend it over the first one if you can pay this amount. ;)
And failing that: since seeing Gira, Westberg et al. I’ve become kinda intent on learning to play bass, in late mid-age. Please recommend your favorite electric #bass models available on the UK market that are appropriate to a beginner with smaller hands – ideally matte black, of course. Thank you. 👊
@adamgreenfield The folk at Wunjo in Denmark St, Soho are lovely, can try loads of types out, great advice for beginners etc https://www.wunjoguitars.com/
@adamgreenfield for a beginner i think the correct answer is "whatever you can get cheaply on the used market"
there are three reasons (1) if it's not for you you aren't out much money (2) learning to stretch your fingers is going to be hard no matter what you get, and when you're learning you won't need to be playing fast (yet) so having to move and stretch is fine. i guarantee you that people with smaller hands than yours play on large frets (3) once you can actually play bass it will be easier to try out different models and see what you prefer (tone-wise and feel-wise)
source: i've been playing bass since the mid 90s and my fingers are not very long
@adamgreenfield (for the same reason i would not really worry about color right now -- you can always customize whatever you end up with and again, the key is not to spend money but to spend time playing)
@d6 This is all *excellent* advice, thanks, but I will autistically not be able to fully enjoy playing anything that isn’t black! : . )
@adamgreenfield music man stingray
@F100 …that costs less than £10,000 lol.
