It's time to stop pretending the Democrats don't lose on purpose. Their job is to lose.

If you still have your head so far up your ass you think the Democrats will save us from fascism, you are as responsible for it as the most strident MAGA supporter.
I still hold out some hope that most of these assholes will get fired in the 2026 primaries, but I'm not holding my breath. Most likely outcome is that they YET AGAIN end up with a small enough majority that they can claim to be being held hostage by garbage like Fetterman. But at the end of the day the only thing that actually matters is what they get done, not what they pretend they want to get done.

And in fact that's how losing now serves their ends: Trump is so unpopular right now that it would be hard to explain why they didn't sweep next November, so they need to take some of the blame for the shutdown rather than holding firm and forcing Republicans to choose between going against Trump and maybe getting primaried because of the shutdown. So now people will just go "gosh they should have planned better" rather than "wow they are clearly losing on purpose to make sure they can justify running centrists in the midterms!"
I won't be voting for centrists ever again, no matter who they're running against. And far from not just not feeling guilty about that, I feel good about it. Fuck anyone who thinks continually putting centrists up against fascists counts as "harm reduction". Over the long term that is harm maximization.
This country either moves left or it ends. If it somehow survives for a while as a full-blown fascist state, oh well; that's where it was headed anyway. The Democrats have no roadmap back from that, and Biden keeping so many of Trump's policies while setting new fossil fuel records show they will just keep moving us right. The difference being that at least people protest against the Republicans.
Show me a roadmap back, or sit down.
Oh you want a roadmap from me? OK. It's beyond obvious that people want change. They want populists and most of them can't even tell the difference between left populists and right populists. So run and win with left populists. Build on Mamdani's win rather than pretending it's a fluke.
The Democrats instead run people who would have been considered Republicans in 2016, because they're going for the votes of Republicans who don't want populism. But those people by and large just stay home if they don't like the Republican nominee, as Harris should have learned but didn't.
The only hope for a political resolution to this is for those Democrats to be fired.
