Agree with you both.
I may have to eat my words, in the same way as Peak Oilers had to somewhat eat their’s after shale oil tech got cracked (and fracked), but there are lots of indicators pointing to crunches which compound each other in inescapable ways.
We can’t see the timing of that, but also…

…I do have a strong sense that mass machine learning and LLMs have great utility for propping up military and surveillance apparatus and the primary resource extraction that underpins it. So we can expect G20 countries to cannibalise their own economies in service of that right up to the point of abject cascading collapse.
Which means, I think, that although the bubble should pop, and needs to, it will be funded to the death
The application for surveillance is what keeps me up at night.
AI is genuinely good at pattern matching. Pair that with all the data they have on us and a government that doesn't care about false positives, and we get to dystopic levels of surveillance and control with current technologies.
That won't be enough to keep the bubble from popping, imo, but it will help authoritarians fuck us over when it does.
