If you lived through the attacks on September 11th and the subsequent fever of nationalism and jingoism, today's a good day to remember how gullible hate makes us, and how those in power will weaponize our basest instincts for their own ends.

@mttaggart It's also worth mentioning how those that horrified us with their abuses 20 years ago have been normalized and rehabilitated into nostalgia by the ratchet effect of the two-party system.

@mttaggart sadly, you only have to go back to the last Presidential election to see that in action.

@mttaggart Divide and Conquer is one of the oldest abuse-of-power tactics, in the book. Disparate #duopoly extremes make if far easier to keep the middle in constant states of destabilization and disintegration, usually making the wealthy more wealthy.

Having the most qualified, ethical people in positions of power is paramount for people to thrive.

@mttaggart Shortly after the attacks, we had customers in for a meeting and we took them out to dinner afterwards. Boss’s wife (who seemed very nice otherwise) made a derogatory comment about Muslims and needing them out of the country. I responded with something like what if they would have been the Oklahoma City bombers group, would she feel the same. Never got an answer

@mttaggart

You're right.

I was one of the people who wanted revenge and I don't think I was wrong to want it.

Anyone who didn't is a better person than me.

But I also wanted, and expected, our leaders to seek revenge against the actual perpetrators.

That was me, being gullible.
