It's absolutely fucked up how quickly Google Search went from my go-to search to a "yuck, why is this shit on, get me out of here".
Like when I search on Android by accident and get AI summaries I have literally yelled at my phone. Absolutely batshit how quickly Google could destroy the reputation if their core product.
@tante There is a noAI version of Google that you can set as your default search engine but I have lost trust in them so totally that I switched to a noAI version of DuckDuckGo instead.
DDG with AI off, on either DDG or Firefox browser with ad blocker and Privacy Badger behind a VPN works pretty well.
@tante I've been pretty happy with the results of ddg searches for many years. This is as both a technical car and computer nerd.
AI turned off ofc.
@tante mit just that. The filter is incredible. I cannot find anything that isn't corporate or government. No blogs, no civil society. Not even the news search works well anymore

@buck yeah, I went to kagi after some tests (would love to not pay for their whole AI experiments but what can you do)
@tante Agree about AI side of things. As long as they continue to allow that to be siloed off, I'm good ... but I do worry they are going to forcibly co-mingle it all at some point.
