@greenpeace renewables are a step in the right direction. But can we be more honest?
Virtually every solar panel and wind turbine has been made *with* coal, and will be for some time.
We have to start somewhere but if we continue to never talk about and confront demand management we’ll continue going nowhere or, at best, somewhere better not remotely fast enough
This is what irks me about people celebrating China as some great environmental hero simply because they see the economic opportunity in solar/wind.
Their annual emissions are still a verticle line outpacing even the US, and the reason companies go to China is because of the lax environmental regulations compared to their own countries.
So instead of doing the responsible thing and prioritizing cleaner manufacturing, they choose their geopolitical ambitions.
sure, but if we MUST use fossils, on the whole, it is better to burn fossils to create things that can make useful energy again and again
rather than burning it just for its useful energy that we can never get back.
i think they've made a solar panel recycling plant that was entirely solar powered, so pretty soon we won't even need fossils to make solar panels, but rather we can simply recycle the ones we already have.
i think @pluralistic made a blog post about this.
@breathOfLife I’m willing to suspend my disbelief at how flaky that sounds. Will try and find the article
