@cbcnews @canada-cbcnews sorry, but the notwithstanding clause is dangerous garbage, and in an era of rising authoritarianism, we need to remove the tools of governments to override our human rights, even temporarily.
@cbcnews @canada-cbcnews the notwithstanding clause makes the wrong balance between democratically elected government and individual and collective human rights. It was designed as an emergency measure, and now it's become boilerplate. It's been abused.
@evan The #NotwithstandingClause should be only a break-glass sort of measure, yes. But it's being used more frequently these days because courts are striking down laws on less plausible interpretations of the Charter.
