Three reasons to feel hope

Things are incredibly grim, but there are small, tentative signs of improvement. Maybe.

@Floppy this is where Dunt, usually very astute, always loses me. he has rose-coloured glasses for Labour.

> He never attacked the Rwanda policy, for instance, on the basis of morality. He attacked it because it would not work.

It's clear to me now that that's not why he didn't take the morality line. he just doesn't have a problem with it, morally.

> There has to be a reminder of what this country stands for - reason, tolerance, moderation, decency.

You won't see that from this government.

@fishidwardrobe Oh, I agree, I don't think any of the things he wants will come from Labour.

The thing that stuck with me most from what I did with Something New was the need for a vision of the future.

I know what future the hard right want, it's obvious, even if people don't want to admit it to themselves.

I *don't* know what future our more progressive mainstream politicians are aiming for, and if I don't know it, then I guarantee you most of the rest of the UK doesn't either.

This has been true since the AV referendum, *at least*. There's an utter failure of progressive vision.

@Floppy we definitely need more stories of how things could be, and not just what we're against.

I'm circling in on that even more slowly than my code commons blog post 🤣

I think #solarpunk has some of the answers, and maybe it needs more concrete, more immediately viable options.

#LifeHouse understandably is somewhat centred on the polycrisis, but I think with DoES we've shown that such places can be fun

@Floppy you were ahead of the curve with Something New. Definitely a well earned #GratefulForYou

@Floppy Because when they share a progressive vision they get this.

Better to just acquiesce to mediocrity and believe that legitimizing the far right’s ‘concerns’ by promising to do something about them will somehow weaken the far right
