#Anarchism entails opposition to hierarchy—in the very literal and specific sense of some people holding power over other people, enforced coercively. That doesn’t mean anarchism is opposed to *differences* among people, which is how some people interpret the word “hierarchy,” but specifically power imposed and sustained by violence.

#Anarchism does not imply chaos. People are capable of organizing themselves and should be free to do so. Anarchism does not oppose voluntary association, only hierarchies of power.

#Anarchism does not merely oppose the state, but all hierarchies—capitalism, feudalism, racism, sexism, ableism, ageism, and everything else. None of us are free until all of us are free.

#Anarchism does not oppose self-defense or disassociation. Neither of these acts intrinsically imposes a hierarchy of command on another person. We do not establish a hierarchy, state or otherwise, simply by voluntarily organizing with each other to provide mutual defense.
