The myth of white supremacy has never been about “independence,” “hard work,” or “pulling yourself up by the bootstraps.” It has always depended on collective resources, the very definition of socialism, just repackaged as privilege.

Take agriculture: white farmers, for decades, have sustained their businesses through government subsidies, bailouts, and tariff protections. Without them, many are now realizing they can’t compete.

Yet Black farmers, despite the same labor and expertise, were systematically denied access to these programs, leading to land loss and generational theft.

Take healthcare: poor white families have been the primary beneficiaries of Medicaid and Medicare, programs vilified as “handouts” when Black families and immigrants demand equitable access. White health outcomes themselves are tied to taxpayer-funded research that centered white bodies while excluding others.

Take wealth-building: white WWII veterans built generational wealth with the G.I. Bill, securing education, housing, and upward mobility. Black veterans were intentionally locked out, forced to return home with little more than the uniform on their backs.

And yet, despite being the greatest beneficiaries of collective investment, white folx cling to the myth of supremacy by demonizing those very same systems once others demand access.

The truth is this: the myth of white supremacy has always been socialism in disguise. Not the kind rooted in fairness or justice, but one that reserves collective wealth, protections, and opportunity for whiteness alone.

The question is: will we keep letting this myth rewrite history, or will we finally acknowledge that the so-called “meritocracy” was never built without massive public investment?
