EDIT: FIXEDISH

I’m saying this as someone who was once on TWO of Ubuntu’s governance councils, deciding who had contributed enough to the community to be an official member & have an [at]ubuntu[dot]com email address and who was trusted to upload packages to the archive and provide oversight for those not so-trusted.

If the #Ubuntu Community Council lets this stand then absolutely fuck the project I devoted 5 years of my life to.

@maco@thadah This made me think of the time when a person on the Fairphone forums came out as a trans woman, and the admins went into the database and updated every reference to her username.

Be like those admins, people. Don't be a queerphobic piece of shit.

@maco @jrdepriest@thadah I mean, if they accept the furry part but don’t accept the queer part, that says a lot too.

Debian isn’t this bad, right? Or Fedora? Because those two distros seem to be the most stable and trustworthy of them all, from what I’ve read so far.

@maco@thadah As queer people, our existance is politicised. They've very much revealed their politics there in aligning themselves against human rights

As a member of the Geek Feminism collective and a member of Ubuntu Women (groups which pointed out the sexism of Mark Shuttleworth’s comments in his 2009 Linuxcon keynote), my existence as a woman was no less political than Lukas’s existence as a queer person.

And I am both.

Calling a person’s demographics “politics” while banning “politics” is nothing more than an attempt to erase those demographics.

@maco@thadah it's a good sign that the moderators of the forum have restored the original: https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/lukas-here-hello-to-all/66658/6

Now, I think they should probably consider a public explanation of what they are going to do to prevent this happening again.

@offby1 thanks!

But yeah, I don't think "We will be working with the Community Council to review all posting guidelines and community moderator practices." truly answers how to prevent a recurrence.

The CC reviewing current practices doesn't take care of the ongoing … training burden? … on the moderators.

In our day jobs, we have to do annual harassment training, right? Maybe mods should have to do an annual re-read of policies.
