A notice went out that two girls ran away close to where I live.

The FB comments have me triggered.

I don't think any child seriously runs away unless they feel consistently and severely unsafe at home. I firmly believe this.

These children are repeat runaways. They've done this many times before.

Remember, I live in Idaho where parents' religious rights supersede a child's right to life.

One person tentatively mentioned that maybe, since they'd run away so often, that someone ought to look into their home life, just in case something is off there.

The rest of the commenters disagreed, with stuff like "They're just adrenaline junkies," and literal abuser language: "They need to be taught a lesson so it doesn't happen again."

These kids are ten.

These are girls who literally are choosing to risk a bear in the woods over whatever is happening at home. (And they do know what the woods are like — their photo shows them with a freshly caught fish. They've been out there for over 24 hours.)

I've been dissociating and in anxiety attack for the last hour.

This is what I mean by #AbuseCulture.

They do need to be found. They can't survive long enough in the woods, and any other "help" they might get will be just as bad or worse than what's at home.

So yeah, someone ought to look into what's going on at home. But I doubt here in Idaho, if anyone in the right position even cares, that the law won't have teeth to protect them.
