Wildfires in Europe are becoming more frequent, more intense, and lasting longer.

Between 8 and 25 August, wildfires burned nearly 600,000 hectares in Portugal and Spain alone – a land area over twice the size of Luxembourg.

We thank 🇨🇿🇩🇪🇫🇮🇫🇷🇬🇷🇮🇹🇲🇹🇳🇱🇷🇴🇸🇪🇸🇰 for supporting Portugal and Spain in their fight against the wildfires that affected both countries.

We are working hard to anticipate risks and strengthen preparedness.

The EU is getting ready for anything, anywhere, anytime.

A group of firefighters in dark jackets with bright yellow accents and yellow helmets walks down a dirt road. In the distance, a wildfire burns on a hillside, and a large cloud of smoke fills the sky. Two red fire trucks are parked on the side of the road on the right.

@EUCommission Hey folks! Thanks for all the support. When this nightmare ends... Maybe (just maybe) it's a good idea to do a root cause analysis. We don't want to discover "too late" that some local regions are defunding public fire services, cutting taxes to the rich, and spending money in... I don't know... in bullfights instead of prevention. Can you imagine? Impossible... right? 👀

@EUCommission "getting ready for anything"
…well, except for addressing the actual CAUSE by standing up to the United Empire of Profit's demands to lock the world into generating energy by spewing CO2 and CH4 into the air. That would be too much to ask, it's much better to keep putting bandaids on the new gaping wounds caused by it.

(And heck, who needs a stable climate anyways? Farmers and "third world" countries, but they don't have lobbyi$ts so who cares.)

Hello @LaChasseuse!

Forest-fire prevention in the EU is taking place at many levels, and it involves a combination of strategic planning, nature-based solutions, and community engagement. This includes education and awareness-raising, reforestation, and providing necessary equipment, works, and infrastructure to equip forest areas with firefighting resources.
