Reminder that as of June 10, Microsoft's stated cloud data sovereignty policy is that they give precedence to US government requests over sovereign countries' laws.
I'm not sure this is widely understood by decision makers yet.

@dznz obviously, neither this nor #CloudAct is understood by @EUCommission, @Bundesregierung and @bsi cuz otherwise they'd ban #Microsoft (along with all the other #GAFAMs and #US-based companies) and their Products as well as Services for *Illegal Espionage"!

The world has desperately needed big investment in Office365 and ActiveDirectory alternatives for years now.
Maybe this is the final kick in the pants needed to get people serious about it.
I understand NextCloud has an impressive suite of features that cover many Microsoft use-cases. I'm sure there are other alternatives available.

I'm reminded of the old adage for CIOs: "No one ever got fired for choosing Microsoft"
@dznz especially since US law can mean literally anything these days (and possibly something else tomorrow). Giving a country where rule of law has effectively broken down unfettered access to your data is a spectacularly bad idea.

@dznz The real interesting bit is US government requests taking precedence over the contractual guarantees and other agreements that Microsoft has with other governments in order to get government uptake of Azure and so on.
That is, they have ~ just said 'yes, we are lying to you when we give you these assurances about data sovereignty and so on, because we do not consider you to be people'.
