That’s why one of the most essential tools in your antiracist toolbox must always be this question:

“What am I missing?”

Because you are missing something.

✔️ You’ve been conditioned to miss it.
✔️ You’ve been rewarded for missing it.
✔️ And others have paid the price for your ignorance.

Asking this question isn’t weakness, it’s practice.

It’s how you start to see beyond what whiteness taught you to see.

It’s how you begin to repair the harm you’ve inherited, perpetuated, and benefited from.

It’s also how you shift from being passively “not all white people” to actively antiracist.

This isn’t a one-time realization. It’s a lifelong habit. And it’s one I expect from anyone serious about dismantling white supremacy, especially those who’ve been protected by it most.

Ready to build the skill of seeing what you’ve been taught to overlook?

A personal anecdote showing how we white cismen wander around unaware of our auto-privilege:
I parked a (relatively new) car next to an old car filled w/ stuff (ie: looked like someone was living out of it) & we had that “wait, who is opening our door first?” b/c cars were close.
I motioned for her to get out first, & rolled down my window & said: “I was just confused who was first; go ahead!” She sheepishly replied: “I…uh …I didn't wanna mess up your great car w/ my door”… (1/2)

(2/2) … I walked away confused because I was seeing us equals. We'd both just parked; we both needed to get out. But we weren't equals. She has to think through:

* Is he gonna mess with me right here for being in his way?

* Is he gonna call the cops if I hit his door? (They'll be on his side of course.)

* Is he gonna go in the grocery store and tell the management I shouldn't be parked here?

& a million other things that I, as you say, am missing.
