Q: "What if we just give up a little on trans people's human rights to stop fascism?"

A: Then you didn't stop fascism, you joined the fascists.

One of the main points I hoped to share here is also articulated in something I've posted previously. I'll share it again and then mute the thread because it's become quite busy, which is lovely - please continue. 🙏

If political strategizing leads you to believe you need to throw any other oppressed group under the bus to win justice for your people, group, or cause then go back and start over because you've adopted fascist logic and have abandoned justice.

@continuation There are no different types of human rights, they are all the same right written down in different conditions. The right to a home, the right to food, the right to an abortion, the rights for trans people, the rights for indigenous people; it is all the right to live and live unbothered & unburdened.

Indeed, yes. The attacks on trans people in the US and elsewhere take different forms of course - and some who claim to oppose fascism in the US have wrongly suggested not supporting trans people so they can attract support for their political cause from certain groups. So my commentary here is to say that when they abandon anyone, for any reason, they are giving in to the fascists. Even if their stated aim is to defeat fascism by doing so, they are in fact helping fascists.

@continuation I am sorry I was not more clear, I agree wholeheartedly! The best way to fight facism is with radical inclusion of everyone except the facists and the intolerant.

I appreciate your replies and thoughtfulness! And agree so much about all the rights - and am grateful you brought up fundamental rights like housing, food, etc. 🙏

If your big tent includes Nazis, you are a Nazi. Full stop.

Those demanding we throw trans people under the bus in the name of their "big tent" are the ones with a purity test. They are letting us know they are more upset about making fascists angry than they are about protecting marginalized groups from harm at the hands of fascists.

@continuation for decades, homeless people have been loosing their rights and about 1% or less of houses Americans even give a fuck enough to try to fight back.

#Illegal2BHomeless all across #AmeriKKKa now.

@continuation it is already super clear that all anti trans rhetoric is about harassing anyone that doesn’t conform 110% to bigoted expectations and stereotypes. Trans rights are human rights.

@continuation The compromise position between "human rights for all" and "genocide for people we don't like" isn't "human rights for some, murder for others".

@JessTheUnstill

If I understand the reply correctly, I think we agree that there should be no compromise on "human rights for all!" 😁

I would personally also say there should be no murder for anyone. Since murder is a pretty basic violation of rights! 🙏

@continuation

I believe the train of thought is that you can sacrifice a few rights to avoid losing more, and then reclaim the lost rights more easily later.

I would be far more sympathetic to this view if there were a single historical example of it ever having worked.

@continuation had a realisation that the anti trans rights argument is a progression of misogyny. Thinking someone is inferior due to the contents of their pants.

Yes it is that ridiculous
