It’s a bit of a misquote, but this certainly makes me want to “get out” of GitHub…

@Floppy What's a good place to "get out" to? Codeberg? I'm thinking I should move at least some of my personal projects away.

@slowe probably @Codeberg yeah, but I'm SO wary of large hosted platforms these days that I might self-host; kind of waiting for ForgeFed to be up and working though before I do that though, otherwise I'll need accounts everywhere.

@Floppy @slowe @Codeberg pretty biased here but... yeah, codeberg partially finances forgejo and i think we have a vested interest as a nonprofit (we only get more stress by "line goes up", not money 😅) to not grow uncontrollably. but then again, every structure can fail and it's not optimal if everyone were to rely on some single site in a single European country as-is.

a bunch of work involving forgefed has been upstreamed to forgejo over the past few days – i'm also working on a few PRs.

@Floppy @slowe @Codeberg self-hosting is also IMHO good because it denormalizes the concept of "everyone having to rely upon large platform" ig, so implicitly that also aligns with our ideological goals a lot.

@n0toose @slowe yeah, I'm 100% in for @forgejo, only reason for not switching to codeberg now is that I want to move to self-hosted later (for the same reasons I'm not on mastodon.social, and the reasons you give) - very exciting that Forgefed work is going in, I hope that day comes soon!

@Floppy @slowe @forgejo it'll take a while still, but it's moving along

@floppy

Just hearing the word/name "ForgeFed" lights me up with hope.

I don't know what it is but I imagine and hope it is a federated/ActivityPub git instance or something...

Gonna check it out!

#ForgeFed

@shoppingtonz that's the idea - federating across forge instances. @forgefed

@Floppy @shoppingtonz

@forgefed can do with some help.

Please refer to my Call to Fediverse, regarding #ForgeFed and #ActivityPub #ForgeFederation status in general.

ActivityPub is going to be the main topic on what progress is being made.

That being said I was not very successful in finding recent progress in regards to how ie. "Forgejo is implementing federation." as it says on forgefed.org.

This is old...though not too old I hope...

"Add ActivityPub Person follow from distant #8720"

which was merged last month or Aug 3, to be exact.

I'm not sure I've got the spoons to deal with self-hosting.
