@PhoenixSerenity Yeah, those are some pretty significant oversights, and someone should have been at least consulted. However, I think that it’s worth bringing up that events like this (and FediForum) often start out with the following conditions:
- Usually 100% paid for out-of-pocket by an individual or small group of people who wanted to see if they could make a basic thing happen.
- Often coordinated by people doing this kind of thing for the very first time
- 90% of preparing the first event involves a lot of panicking, “oh my god, how the fuck do I do this?!”, and then taking on way too much for one person
I’m not trying to pretend that there weren’t shortcomings or mistakes made, just that this is the byproduct of volunteers trying to do their best with what little they had. Each time an event kicks off, we develop a laundry list of things that really need to be improved upon for the next one.
Anyway, I will talk to Charles and other people organizing these events in the future to make sure we get this right the first time. Nobody was trying to be ableist, but intent is not magic. I will try to find ways to make these things better wherever I can.
