"Why Black people don't call the police."

And

"Why cops make the murder rate go up."

Part 1000.

Award winning musician GloRilla's house was burglarized by home invaders who knew she would be performing at a concert.

Police showed up and... searched her house for drugs...🤔

And charged her.🤡

The burglars knew that she wouldn't be home because her public performance schedule was well known. But they weren't expecting one of her relatives to be home, and heavily armed.😬 That relative wasn't going for the home invasion. He bucked back.

The would-be home invaders ran off. No one was shot.

The cops showed up and immediately started doing what cops do: not preventing any crimes, not solving any burglaries or home invasions, not investigating, but doing what they do best: putting drug charges on Black people.🤷🏿‍♂️

They searched her closet with drug dogs and found a stash of weed.

@mekkaokereke Her lawyers should have a field day with that. No probable cause, no warrant, no reasonable theory to use drug dogs. Well, unless the person who fended off the criminals was smoking up in there, and they smelled it. Although if this is in California, I'm not sure there's much they can do about that.

But I agree, cops treat everyone like criminals. Heck, I'm a rich, white, cis-het male, and they nabbed me for exiting the freeway. I kid you not.

@mekkaokereke no sane person of any race should trust the police. It takes a certain mindset to a tool (of enforcement), specially in such a broken system all around. The faster that the whole of society openly admits that these people are just bullies with psychological issues, the faster we can all start designing a system that actuall solves issues of protection for the community.

Cops are supposed to protect women from violent armed men that break into their house in the night to steal things. Isn't that supposedly what we pay these billions of dollars for?

Cops aren't supposed to discourage women from ever calling or talking to the police.

GloRilla is rich. Very rich. That's why the home invaders were there in the first place. They do their research.

So she could afford the $22,000 bail.

If she wasn't rich, she would be in jail, waiting for her trial to begin.

Pre-trial detention in Georgia for felony charges can be over a year.

I've shared on here (many times) before, how Black communities making the intelligent and well informed decision to not trust the police, makes solving homicides almost impossible.

Because without the community's help, you can't catch murderers, and murderers are the ones doing all the murdering.🤷🏿‍♂️

You can make the murder rate go down, just by showing Black communities that cops are not here to prey on them and extract wealth from them.

You can make the murder rate go up, just by reminding Black communities that no, cops are absolutely here to prey on them and extract wealth from them.

🙂🙃

You all know full well that there is no world in which Taylor Swift's house is broken into by home invaders while she's performing at the Grammys, and Travis Kelce empties a clip at them, and the cops bring drug dogs to the house to find Taylor's edibles and send her to jail.

After emptying his clip, Travis Kelce would have no concern dialing 911. He would fully expect the police to show up and be helpful.

He wouldn't even remove a bong from a coffee table before opening the door🤷🏿‍♂️

Because the experience that white folk and Black folk can expect from cops is different

Let's talk ICE.

ICE is now arresting women that seek help at shelters. This discourages women from seeking help.

ICE arrests women at hospital emergency rooms. This discourages injured women from getting life saving care.

ICE is using local cops to make arrests. This discourages calling 911.

If you've understood this thread so far, you will see that the rate of calls to 911 from undocumented people is going to go down.

Then the murder rate amongst undocumented people, is going to go up.

By their actions, cops have increased the murder rate amongst a population.🤦🏿‍♂️

@mekkaokereke

Excellent short thread that makes crystal clear why Black people don't call the cops. It explains a great deal. Applies to Canada's First Nations, too.

"without the community's help, you can't catch murderers, and murderers are the ones doing all the murdering.🤷🏿‍♂️

"You can make the murder rate go down, just by showing Black communities that cops are not here to prey on them and extract wealth from them."

@mekkaokereke @fugueish compare and contrast: the fascist elements of Dutch government are currently trying to pass a law making it illegal to render aid and comfort of any kind to undocumented immigrants (and therefore dramatically increase the amount of checks of someone’s immigration status in everyday life). The Dutch police, in an official capacity, put out a very angry letter about how that makes the entire idea that police are there to help people and prevent crime a fucking joke, and that murder etc will skyrocket. https://infosec.exchange/@0xabad1dea/114801013939021931

Picture the futility of a "good cop," who works homicides in Georgia: you don't care what drugs GloRilla has in her closet. You just want to solve murders.

There's been a string of home invasions that Major Crimes thinks are all done by the same crew. In a few cases, they killed the homeowners.

But no one will talk to you. Not even GloRilla's relative.

Because your coworker prioritized trying to send GloRilla to jail, and now everyone knows that it's not safe to talk to cops after a robbery attempt.

So that robbery crew is going to keep going, and more people are going to get hurt.

@mekkaokereke won't someone think of the shareholders. Think of the press. The clicks. Cameras. In 4K. The show of force. Of power. Shiny SWAT vehicles. Press conferences. Court fee schedule set for the moon for sure. All syndicated at the speed of light. What is all this? 👀

I throw this all out there to make people say with me "a system what it does" - so we, together, can change it. All of us. 👯‍♀️
