The biggest AI advantage isn't technical knowledge, it's something more fundamental.

To get better results from AI, it's not what you'd expect.

It's not about:
- Understanding neural networks
- Knowing the latest AI tools
- Having a computer science degree

It's about understanding LANGUAGE.

@Wiobyrne Right now, it's about understanding language. It used to be about understanding math. But now we have language models. But it wouldn't make sense to assume that this is where everything stops.

@Downes agreed. I just had this discussion on Facebook. It'll advance over time, and what makes sense at one point will change as technologies change.

I come from a literacy perspective, but I think there is a need for a "meta" level understanding and framing of these concepts as they progress.

The twist? As AI gets more sophisticated, success depends MORE on human communication skills, not less. The professionals thriving in 2025 aren't the ones who know how transformers work; they're the ones who can bridge the gap between human intent and machine interpretation.

Bottom line: Treat prompt engineering like any other professional skill.

Who else has noticed this pattern? What's your experience?

馃挕 Just published a deep dive on this at https://wiobyrne.com/the-linguistics-advantage/.
