Fairphone Gen. 6 has been released less than a week ago, and it boots with @postmarketOS already.

Beyond awesome.

@tommi The new Fairphone looks really good, right? Especially the green one, I kinda want it. 🫣

@harryfk I have two dealbreakers: the size, and how well the camera works in a deGoogled OS.

It’s smaller than the Fairphone 5, but it still feels kinda bulky.

Can’t say for the camera, but I am fairly sure that @calyxos would still use its own camera app, terribly integrated… They can’t make the Fairphone stock camera work in a deGoogled OS, and the results are noticeably bad.

@tommi Have you tried #OpenCamera? I'm using it on my #FP4 running @calyxos and I'm quite happy with the results...

@harryfk I have been using a Fairphone 5 with CalyxOS as my daily driver for one year and a half… I gotta say I am quite frustrated. The camera is very important for me. So I go around with my old iPhone in my pocket and I use that to shoot pictures 🤯

There is no valuable pocket camera on the market right now. I have looked very hard for it…

@tommi Hmm, that doesn’t sound great, the camera is probably the most important app on a phone, to be honest. 😕

@tommi

question: why Calyx when Fairphone ships with /e/OS, which I believe would support its camera very well. I'm running /e/OS on an UNsupported phone and my camera works perfectly.

@m2m @harryfk From what I know, the release cycle of /e/ is awfully long… I don’t mind having updates and security patches late, but not one month later…

I based my OS choice on this reference table (and a bit of testing)
