#wayback, a small project gluing together wayland components to turn Xwayland into a full X environment, is now published: https://github.com/kaniini/wayback

there's definitely a gazillion bugs, which will need work across the entire stack to solve.

however, unlike Xlibre, this is a sustainable path that is intended to reduce the number of X components in distributions.

@ariadne i'm just happy i get to keep running lxde, which was the only reason i kept having xorg installed. of course, porting the gtk3-based lxde to wayland/labwc is on my priority list (lxqt sucks).

wayback means running lxde in the year 2035 will remain technically feasible.

thank you ariadne for this project. i will be watching it with great enthusiasm.

@ariadne would i be right to assume that this wouldn't work with the xf86 drivers? in particular i'm used to xf86-input-wacom and its mapping settings, and at least for now afaict libinput has got *way* better but isn't quite *fully* there.

i know, of course, all of this should be fixed by getting the compositors to handle and map more tablet events... (kwin already went a long way in the past few years)
