I'm imagining an audio equivalent of PixelFed.
An app that enables me to clip a sample of a podcast or song, and embed it in a post. Posts would appear in any fediverse app supporting media embeds as a thumbnail image with a play button, and a text caption. Otherwise the text, the thumbnail, and a link to where the audio can be played.
Am I kind of describing loops.video @dansup?

I know about CastoPod, but it's a long way from the app UX I described. Let's call it Samplr. CastoPod is to Sanplr as PeerTube is to Loops. You might use PT as a video source for making Loops posts, but you wouldn't use it to make or host them. Does that make sense?
Considerations:
* To keep resource use down, samples could have a length limit, per server, akin to Mastodon's character limit
* To avoid unnecessary transfers of large files, audio would be fetched by servers on first play by an account there
* What's the legal risk? Fair Use rights in copyright laws protect quoting text, do they apply to sampling audio under copyright?
