There are thousands of animated GIFs online illustrating the transient nature of ‘country’ boundaries. Asking if they have a ‘right’ to exist is to entirely miss that they are self-evidently an impermanent cultural settlement of both oppression and convenience

…Nation states are instruments for wielding power. They have been very successful at doing so in the fossil-fuelled era but they don’t have a ‘right’ to exist.
Not least because in wielding the power of massive ecological overshoot they’ve undermined their own viability. Boundaries based on fantasy cannot negotiate with thermodynamics
