No, it's not April Fools' Day. If you've ever published a book, or a journal article with a DOI assigned to it, then Elsevier _claims_ 🤮 to be representing YOU in a copyright lawsuit it has recently filed in New York.

I fall into this set of authors myself. Whilst I'm not that keen on some of what Meta's done here, Elsevier & co DO NOT REPRESENT ME!

@rmounce it's probably in the small prints of the agreements we as authors made with them

The whole copyright assignment was introduced to me "back in the days", bc they could protect my authors rights better (than my university)

But I agree with your sentiment very much :(

How sick is that? I've spent my entire life boycotting Elsevier (successfully fwiw) and now it claims to represent me and my rights even though I've NEVER published, peer-reviewed or edited for them.
