In 1960, France detonated its first atomic bomb in the Algerian Sahara. Charles de Gaulle had spent the decade prior arguing that American security guarantees couldn’t be trusted in a serious crisis, that no superpower would risk its own cities to defend a junior ally, and that France needed weapons it owned outright.
The argument was simple: if you don’t control the means, you don’t control the outcome.

@Daojoan note. for nucleair tests you need a huge backyard. Or you have to use other man' s land. Algerians are still mad at France for this.

@Daojoan I am still not convinced that what is currently marketed as AI and what all those MW data centers are for has any long term value.
For the most part efficiency goes down when using LLMs to generate code, mostly because the accuracy is stuck at a level that most junior devs exceed 6 months into their career.
The same accuracy issue makes it unsuitable for many other fields and there is not enough good data out there for any model to evolve it's way out of this.

One outcome is an exception to this rule, because masses without means surely can ignore things out of existence.
